EMV Payment Terminal Cloud Basics

Have you heard about EMV payment terminal cloud, but not quite sure what it means or why you should consider it? Payment terminal cloud is a brand new idea in the world of merchant services. With the development of non-blocking input/output (NIO) technology comes the possibility of terminal clouds than can potentially allow thousands of payment terminals to connect to the server.

Without NIO, mon-embedded, and some embedded, payment terminals could not run without direct communication between the POS and the terminal. With this new technology, payment terminal solutions can act like chat rooms so that direct communication is no longer necessary. NIO allows the POS system to communicate with any of the multiple terminals that can be connected with the server. Once the POS system is connected, it can send messages to any of the cloud terminals.

This approach has two distinct advantages. First, the POS system does not interact with credit card terminals, so PCI issues are not a problem. Second, the POS system communicates with the server the same, regardless of whether the card is present or not.
