EMV Parameters and EMV Keys Rotation
It is a
common mistake to think that EMV certification process includes only two stages
such as host certification and terminal certification. In the reality the
situation is a little bit more complicated, there are two more important
components which you need to consider: handling of EMV parameters and EMV application
keys. These two components are extremely important for payment processing systems
which are integrated with several acquirers.
What is the
function of the EMV parameters and EMV keys? They are needed to organize the
proper exchange of the information between the chip on the payment card and the
EMV kernel of the payment terminal. Usually a configuration file, which
includes application IDs, application parameters and keys for them, is stored
in the terminal. And there is a very slight possibility that you will have to
change EMV parameters at some point.
On the contrary,
EMV keys should be changed on the regular basis. Sometimes EMV keys rotation
can be done through an API provided by the processor, but it is important to
realize that you will need some time in order to develop the respective logic
which will be responsible for EMV keys rotation. There are two possible options:
rotation of the EMV keys can be either embedded in the terminal management
system or it can be the functionality offered by the payment gateway you are
using.
One more
important thing which should be mentioned is the example of the modern payment
processing software which can provide you with the required EMV functionality.
Consider UniPay Payment Management Platform, this is a modern, flexible payment
processing solution which will meet the requirements of your business and help
your business to succeed. (Additional information about this payment gateway is
available here).
